SHARKMany business transactions and negotiations involve multiple parties and “moving parts.” It sometimes seems that no business can ever be done because some “stakeholder” is inaccessible, on vacation, or “off the grid.”

Some time ago, facing a looming deadline to post a supersedeas bond, I spent much of a day in an intense multiparty email exchange, a prerequisite for an appeal. I apologized profusely for interfering with one person’s vacation. “No problem,” he emailed back, “While we’ve been exchanging emails, I landed an 8-foot hammerhead shark” (and he sent the photo shown here.)

How can we comprehend the dramatic changes we are living through? Will our children’s children ask us, “What is an office? Why did people go to them?”
